Keepers of the Tradition is a collaboration between portrait artist Leslie Roberts Gregg and author Michael Abraham to present portraits of contemporary Appalachian people who are pursuing the avocations and occupations of their parents and grandparents. The book contains a dozen stories and portraits, lavishly augmented with photos of them and their interests and localities.
We had a successful launch of the portraits and the book on April 26 at the Alexander Black House and Cultural Center. We’re told that our audience was the largest ever to attend. We are absolutely overwhelmed by the support and reception to our project! We are ecstatic! See a whole bunch of photos of happy people here.
The Roanoke Times published an amazing, 2-page article about us written expertly by Ralph Berrier Jr. Please have a look here.
Michael and Leslie are happy to appear at your book club, civic organization, or any group that gathers for good fun and conversation to talk about this project. Contact us!
Be sure to visit often to see our additions! Upcoming events are here.
Artist Leslie Roberts Gregg and author Michael Abraham proudly hold our book, “Keepers of the Tradition” as we await our segment on the air on WSLS TV on March 3, 2016 in Roanoke.
